Oklahoma adds 2027 QB Noah Smith while losing WRs Demare Dezeurn and Tra’Von Hall

Oklahoma’s 2027 recruiting class got another jolt on Sunday, when the Sooners added a second quarterback pledge, Noah Smith, joining already-committed QB Jamison Roberts. The development comes amid a weekend of major movement for OU, where plans for the 2027 class changed quickly as Oklahoma saw two wide receivers decommit and flip to other programs.

Roberts had been Oklahoma’s first quarterback commitment for the 2027 cycle, according to On3’s commitment tracker. That matters because quarterbacks are usually the hardest position to land early and the most important to stabilize before the next wave of visits and offers begins. With Smith now also in the mix, OU has at least two scholarship-trajectory quarterbacks accounted for in a class that still has time to sort itself out.

Smith’s addition is reported to have come after a direct recruiting exchange with Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables, per a Tuesday report from AtoZ Sports. AtoZ also describes Smith as a Lawton, Oklahoma, quarterback prospect and notes that his recruitment had not been tied to major Division I attention at the time of his pledge. In a cycle where high-end QB targets are often heavily recruited across multiple recruiting services, the Sooners’ willingness to take a second quarterback this early suggests they are prioritizing long-term development and depth planning.

The quarterback news did not come alone. On Saturday, Oklahoma parted ways with Demare Dezeurn, a wide receiver who committed to Cal after his visit to Berkeley. Sports Illustrated reported that Dezeurn decommitted from Oklahoma and then committed to the Golden Bears for the 2027 class. SI listed him at 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, and the report framed the flip as a fast-moving end to what had been an Oklahoma pledge.

Later the same day, Oklahoma also lost Tra’Von Hall to Ole Miss. SI’s Ole Miss-focused report said Hall flipped his commitment from the Sooners to the Rebels after being committed to OU since November, and described him as a versatile back and receiver type rather than a one-position recruit. That Ole Miss swing is especially notable because it targets an SEC rival for OU and removes yet another skill-position piece from a class that was already dealing with a decommit earlier in the weekend.

Taken together, the Sooners’ weekend reads like a case study in how quickly class-building can shift once official visits and late-summer attention collide. Oklahoma didn’t just lose talent. It also lost roster-shaping options at wide receiver and possibly forced itself to re-balance the remaining needs of the 2027 class. Meanwhile, adding a second quarterback at the same time can be seen as an attempt to protect the most fragile part of the future depth chart while still continuing to recruit across the board.

Commitments at this stage are still verbal and can change, so this doesn’t lock OU into any final class composition. But as the June window opens, the next question is whether Oklahoma responds to the WR departures by reloading at the position, and whether Smith and Roberts stay aligned with what the Sooners want their QB room to look like in subsequent recruiting cycles.
