Lopez becomes the first Major Leaguer to 100 hits this season, while Meyer remains unbeaten as Miami moves back above .500 for the first time since a 9-8 start.
Max Meyer and Otto Lopez each carried the load for the Miami Marlins on Saturday, and the result was a 6-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants at loanDepot park. Meyer stayed unbeaten, and Lopez reached a significant season milestone by becoming the first Major Leaguer to 100 hits. The combination pushed Miami to its first day over.500 since beginning the year 9-8, a reset that matters for a team trying to pull itself toward the playoff conversation.
Lopez’s 100th hit landed in a game Miami controlled well enough to keep the Giants from mounting a consistent comeback. The mark is not just a personal benchmark, it is a report that Lopez has maintained the kind of contact-driven production that tends to stabilize an everyday lineup. Being the first player to 100 hits also places a clear time stamp on his season pace, because the game’s next benchmarks often come in waves as teams reach late June and early July.
On the mound, Meyer continued a run of effectiveness by remaining unbeaten in the Marlins’ win. His standing mattered in a matchup where Miami needed the starter to set the tone early, and the 6-3 scoreline suggests the Marlins were able to turn pitching progress into tangible innings advantage. For teams trying to climb from the middle of the standings, a reliable starting pitcher can make the bullpen’s job shorter and more manageable.
The win moved the Marlins to 39-38, their first time above.500 since their earlier 9-8 stretch. That detail captures why Saturday’s result played differently than a routine win. At this point in the schedule, every swing over or under.500 tends to reflect more than one day of performance, it reflects whether the club is building momentum or continuing to chase consistency.
Miami’s 6-3 margin also offered a reminder of what this roster needs right now: sustained offense paired with starters who can keep games from getting away. Lopez’s milestone underscores the hitting side, while Meyer staying unbeaten points to the pitching side. Together, they give the Marlins a blueprint for how to win on days when the opponent’s lineup is capable of putting up damage.
Looking ahead, the main question for the Marlins will be whether they can extend the pattern against the rest of their June and early July slate. A first-over-.500 moment can be fragile if it is followed by a string of close losses, so Miami will likely measure its progress in how it responds after this kind of emotional lift. For Lopez, the challenge becomes continuing to separate himself as a top-of-the-league hitter as the calendar turns, while Meyer’s next start will be a key test of whether the unbeaten trend remains intact.
