Nellis, entering his eighth season as Brookfield Central head coach, is recognized by the Green Bay Packers as the Lancers prepare for Level 3 of the WIAA Division 2 playoffs.
The Green Bay Packers have named Joel Nellis of Brookfield Central High School in Brookfield, Wisconsin, their High School Coach of the Week, a recognition tied to the program’s momentum during the postseason.
Nellis is in his eighth season as head coach of the Lancers. Brookfield Central (a No. 7 seed) enters Level 3 of the WIAA Division 2 playoffs with the goal of advancing to the Level 4 state semifinals for the second time under Nellis.
According to the Packers, Brookfield Central finished the regular season 3-6 but secured its postseason berth by winning close to the end of the year. The team has already defeated second-seeded Beaver Dam and No. 6 seed River Falls to earn a matchup this week with top-seeded New Richmond.
The announcement credits Nellis’s approach to team culture and core values, highlighting that he feels the season’s earlier challenges prepared the Lancers to remain consistent during a road playoff run.
Beyond coaching, Nellis is described as a physical education teacher at Brookfield Central. The Packers also note that the award includes a $1,000 donation to the school’s football program from the Green Bay Packers and the NFL Foundation, along with recognition and partner sites.
