Panthers list Monroe Freeling inactive vs. Eagles, with Taylor Moton set to return

Freeling, the team’s rookie right tackle, sits for Week 6 after a knee injury. Carolina also carries several offensive and defensive starters on the inactive list, while adding depth via practice-squad elevations.

Carolina’s Week 6 game at Philadelphia comes with a clear front-line change along the offensive line: rookie right tackle Monroe Freeling is listed inactive, meaning he will not play this week.

Freeling exited Carolina’s Detroit game before the bye with a knee injury, according to the team’s official inactives release. He was able to practice on a limited basis twice during the week, but was ultimately listed as doubtful on the final injury report.

While Freeling remains out, the Panthers’ other tackle option, Taylor Moton, is set to return. The team said Moton has been prepared to go after coming back from the NFI list Saturday.

The Panthers’ inactive list for Sunday against the Eagles also includes tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders, running back AJ Dillon, and emergency third quarterback Haynes King, along with defensive tackle TeRah Edwards.

Carolina’s personnel picture is further complicated on the offensive line by two additional inactive linemen, Torricelli Simpkins III and Albert Reese, with the team stating it has 11 offensive linemen on the active roster after Moton’s return.

The Panthers did make additions for the matchup, getting defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton and running back Trevor Etienne back this week. Carolina also elevated running back Anthony Tyus III and cornerback Robert Rochell from the practice squad via standard elevation.

Why It Matters

  • Carolina’s offensive line availability is impacted immediately at tackle, with Freeling sidelined and Moton returning.
  • The inactive list is heavy on offensive linemen and includes key skill-position players, which can shape Carolina’s in-game rotation and matchups.
  • Getting Wharton and Etienne back helps rebalance Carolina’s defensive and offensive depth for a road matchup against Philadelphia.
  • Practice-squad elevations (Tyus III and Rochell) report the Panthers’ plan to maintain coverage and run-game options despite multiple injuries listed as inactive.
