Progressive Change Campaign Committee backs Elijah Manley in Florida primary against Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) announced that it is backing Elijah Manley in next week’s Democratic primary in Florida’s newly drawn congressional district, in a bid to unseat veteran Democratic Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, The Guardian reported on August 14, 2026.

According to the report, PCCC made its endorsement ahead of the primary, positioning the race as a contrast between a newcomer to electoral politics and Wasserman Schultz, who has held the seat previously and is seeking another term.

The Guardian said Manley is a 27-year-old substitute teacher. The report also described his background as involving childhood homelessness, a personal history the campaign group cited as part of its rationale for backing him in the primary.

The PCCC endorsement arrives as Florida’s congressional lines have been redrawn, creating a “newly drawn district” for voters and reshaping which incumbents and challengers are on the same primary ballot, The Guardian said. The district’s new configuration is a key factor in why the race is presenting an unusual matchup in the Democratic field.

In its public endorsement, PCCC framed the primary as an opportunity for progressives to support a candidate it portrays as more closely aligned with its priorities, while challenging what the group characterizes as incumbent politics. The Guardian’s account attributed those characterizations to the committee and tied them to its support for Manley.

Wasserman Schultz, who has represented Florida in Congress for years, will face the added complication of a newly drawn district and a serious primary challenge from within her party, with the PCCC endorsement adding another organized voice to Manley’s bid as voters decide the nominee next week.
