Que Robinson sees Year 2 as a chance to be more decisive on defense and a bigger special-teams contributor for the Broncos

The Denver Broncos have been evaluating how quickly their young defenders can translate practice habits into consistent game snaps, and outside linebacker Que Robinson says he’s entering Year 2 ready to take that next step. Robinson’s message is direct, he wants to be more decisive, and he believes the work of his rookie season can lead to increased opportunities both in the defensive rotation and on special teams.

Robinson’s framing of his role was echoed publicly by Denver defensive coordinator Vance Joseph in June. Joseph said Robinson is ready to progress “in terms of playing more defensive snaps and playing more [special] teams snaps.” The comments situate Robinson’s development plan inside the broader coaching approach Joseph has emphasized for the Broncos defense, where effort on special teams and clean execution on defense are paths to greater trust.

For Robinson, the core of that development is mental and technical. Being “decisive” can mean taking the correct initial read, committing to a first move without hesitation, and staying disciplined through the play once the snap starts. In the NFL, those changes matter because outside linebackers are often tasked with making split-second responsibilities work against protections, quick game concepts, and shifting run looks. A player who can simplify decisions and act with purpose typically earns more opportunities as training camp sharpens into the regular season.

Robinson also appears to understand that Year 2 is less about potential and more about production on the type of snaps coaches track closely. Defensive playing time for an outside linebacker is frequently tied to situational roles, including third downs, pass-rush packages, and specific matchups. Special teams participation, meanwhile, is frequently the most immediate stage where coaches can see whether a player’s technique, pace, and physicality are reliable in live coverage. Robinson’s stated interest in both areas suggests he’s aiming to be usable in multiple ways as roster decisions tighten.

The team context is important. The Broncos use camp to evaluate depth at linebacker, particularly players who can contribute beyond a single defensive role. For a second-year player, that evaluation can become a defining factor, since the margin between making the active roster and spending extended time on the sideline often comes down to special teams readiness as much as defensive upside. Robinson’s emphasis on special teams aligns with that reality and provides a concrete lens for measuring his progress.

Broncos fans will likely look for clearer involvement from Robinson during preseason preparation, not only on defense but also in kickoff and punt phases where assignments are sharper and mistakes are punished. When coaches describe a player as ready for “more snaps,” it usually implies an internal belief that he can handle the responsibilities more consistently, and that he has earned a more meaningful role in team periods and game-like situational work.

Still, it’s worth noting what Robinson’s comments do not guarantee. A public statement about opportunity is not a promise of playing time, and defensive rotations can shift quickly based on performance, schematic needs, and how the unit absorbs weekly game plans. As camp moves forward, the clearest indicator will be whether Robinson’s practice decisions carry over into the moments that coaches can quantify: where he lines up, how often he’s deployed, and whether he shows the decisiveness he’s describing.

If Robinson can separate himself in both defensive packages and special teams, his Year 2 could become more than a development story. It would place him into the category of players who help stabilize the roster by offering flexible usage, and it could also change the internal competition at outside linebacker by increasing the number of snaps coaches can confidently allocate to him across different phases of the game.
