Cleveland promoted Velazquez to Triple-A Columbus on May 18, moving him up from Double-A Akron, where he had put together a productive season at the plate while also getting repeated first-base reps and some time in left field. The promotion story also framed him as young for his level, emphasizing that the jump was a test, not a rubber stamp.

At the plate during the Columbus stretch, Velazquez’s power has shown up in ways that fit the profile the organization has been building.
