A pair of interception returns, a second-half Corum burst, and Kyren Williams’ rushing score helped the Rams turn turnovers into 24 points at SoFi Stadium.
The Rams took control of Sunday’s home matchup at SoFi Stadium by converting two defensive takeaways into points, then leaning on Blake Corum and Kyren Williams to keep the Chargers from sustaining offense in a 24-9 victory.
After Los Angeles’ opening drive ended with a three-and-out, a Matthew Stafford interception set the Chargers up early, but Los Angeles’ defense answered. Quentin Lake returned a pick 46 yards to the Los Angeles 19, and though the drive stalled, Brandon McManus made it 3-0 with a 30-yard field goal at 5:42 in the first quarter.
Special teams and field goals kept the game within reach for both sides early. After Los Angeles tied it 3-3 with a first-half touchdown by Williams to take a 10-9 lead late in the second quarter, the Rams used Corum to open the third quarter with a run-heavy series. Corum’s 23-yard touchdown capped that start-of-half drive and pushed the lead to 17-9.
The Rams put the game away in the third quarter when Trent McDuffie intercepted Herbert and returned it 26 yards to the Chargers 22. Stafford then connected with Puka Nacua on a screen pass, and Nacua returned it for a touchdown to make it 24-9 with 3:41 left in the period. From there, the Chargers managed only one late threat in a scoreless fourth quarter.
Corum finished with 11 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown. Williams added 16 carries for 56 yards and one touchdown, giving Los Angeles a more decisive run advantage after halftime.
Los Angeles also got help from role-specific depth at kicking: McManus handled field goals and extra points, while Joshua Karty was elevated from the practice squad for kickoffs. The report also noted Joe Cardona was inactive with an ankle injury, with Jake McQuaide serving as the long snapper. Defensively, cornerback Jaylen Watson was ruled out after a shoulder injury late in the third quarter, and McDuffie was questionable to return with a back injury late in the third quarter.
