Rams injury update: Justin Dedich returns to practice with hand wrapped, Davis Allen back for work as Puka Nacua and Myles Garrett remain sidelined

The Los Angeles Rams got a meaningful lift in training camp practice on Monday when coach Sean McVay updated the status of multiple players in the health and participation picture. Offensive lineman Justin Dedich returned to the field after working his way through a hand injury, participating with his hand wrapped for the first time in camp, according to the Rams’ official team update.

McVay also reported that tight end Davis Allen, who had been dealing with a quad issue, returned to practice. For a team building continuity in the early stages of the season, having additional skill-position and blocking reps available helps sharpen timing, especially on play-action and intermediate pass routes that often require tight end coordination with the protections and route concepts.

On the other side of the depth chart, the Rams said wide receiver Puka Nacua (psoas) remained a non-participant. Nacua’s absence keeps the team’s receiving reps focused on other options as camp progresses, and it also means the coaching staff will continue to manage routes and quarterback-to-receiver reads without one of the offense’s more dynamic targets.

Defensive end Myles Garrett (knee) was also listed as still not participating. Garrett’s status carries added weight for a team’s defensive installation work because his role typically involves both edge-rush fundamentals and setting the tone for the pass rush in combination with the interior. Limited practice access can slow the polish of stunt and pressure calls that depend on consistent timing at full speed.

For the Rams, Dedich’s return is particularly relevant to the offensive line rotation. Depth on the interior and at tackle can be the difference between maintaining scheme stability when the reps cycle through different combinations throughout camp. With Dedich practicing again, the Rams can put more players through the same sequence of calls while continuing to evaluate who can handle the full load if injuries or fatigue require lineup adjustments.

Allen’s return similarly reshapes the tight end workload. Tight ends in Los Angeles often do more than just run routes; they contribute in pass protection and in-line blocking on different run fits. When Allen is back on the practice field, it gives the staff more looks at the blocking assignments that need synchronized footwork between the line, quarterback timing, and tight end leverage.
