Boston exercised the right-hander’s team option for the 2027 season after a 2026 run that featured a 1.72 ERA and production across 54 appearances.
The Boston Red Sox have exercised Garrett Whitlock’s club option for the 2027 season, the team announced Monday. The decision keeps a key right-handed reliever in Boston’s bullpen mix heading into the next year.
In 2026, Whitlock appeared in 54 games and posted a 7-2 record with 26 holds and four saves. He finished with a 1.72 ERA over 52.1 innings and a 0.90 WHIP.
Among Major League relievers in 2026, Whitlock ranked in the upper tier in multiple run-prevention categories, finishing fifth in ERA and sixth in WHIP among qualifying pitchers. He was also tied for eighth in holds and tied for sixth in wins among relievers.
Whitlock’s performance was also strong at home, where he logged a 1.42 ERA in 25.1 innings across 26 games, according to the Red Sox announcement.
Boston noted that Whitlock has spent his entire major league career with the organization since being selected by the Red Sox in the 2020 Rule 5 Draft. He has appeared in 219 career MLB games (including 23 starts), all with Boston (2021-26).
