ReelShort signs Indonesian distribution and co-production deal with Vidio for 200 microdramas

The short-drama producer ReelShort reached an agreement with streaming platform Vidio to add hundreds of microdramas to the service starting Sept. 1, along with new locally co-produced short shows.

ReelShort has struck a distribution and co-production deal with Indonesian streaming platform Vidio, bringing hundreds of microdramas to local viewers and expanding the platform’s short-drama slate, Deadline reported on Aug. 26.

Under the agreement, ReelShort’s catalogue of 200 titles will be available on Vidio starting Sept. 1 through a dedicated Short Drama tab, the outlet said. Vidio’s Short Drama section was launched last year, according to the report, and the titles will be accessible to subscribers within that feature.

Deadline also said the partnership includes co-production of new short dramas with Indonesian production houses. The report did not specify the number of co-produced projects, production houses involved, or the release schedule for the new shows.

ReelShort’s content is branded around short-form drama episodes, and the deal is positioned as both a catalog expansion and an investment in additional local programming. A promotional image used by Deadline for the announcement shows the title “Rahasia Kelam Kakak Tiriku,” indicating at least one of ReelShort’s microdramas being highlighted in connection with the launch on Vidio.

For Vidio, the arrangement adds new genre inventory to an already established short-drama destination within the app. The report described the Short Drama tab as a dedicated area on the platform, suggesting the ReelShort content will be surfaced within a specific viewing pathway rather than distributed only through general recommendations.

For ReelShort, the deal represents a further international distribution step by placing its microdramas within an Indonesian subscription streaming service alongside newly co-produced work. The report did not provide details on licensing terms, language localization approach, or whether the co-productions will be exclusive to Vidio.

The next key date identified in the report is Sept. 1, when the ReelShort catalogue titles are scheduled to appear on Vidio’s Short Drama tab for subscribers. The timeline for the co-produced series was not included in the Deadline account.

Why It Matters

  • The Sept. 1 launch date sets an immediate availability window for subscribers and supports a planned content rollout on Vidio’s short-drama feature.
  • The inclusion of co-produced Indonesian short dramas suggests the partnership could deepen local production collaboration rather than relying only on imported titles.
  • A focused Short Drama tab indicates how platforms are organizing genre-specific content to compete for viewer attention within subscription ecosystems.
  • For rights holders and production partners, co-production arrangements can shift value toward production-level relationships and longer-term programming commitments beyond a single licensing window.
