The Patriots chairman and CEO is one of five finalists in the Contributor category after a multi-step reduction process by the Hall’s subcommittee.
Robert Kraft has advanced as one of the final five candidates in the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Contributor category for the Class of 2027, the Hall announced Wednesday via the Patriots organization. The decision means Kraft will be considered by the Hall’s Contributor Subcommittee as part of the next stage of the Class of 2027 selection process.
According to the announcement, the Contributor Subcommittee selected the five finalists from an original field of 42 nominees after a series of reduction votes. The other four candidates named alongside Kraft are Ralph Hay, Virginia McCaskey, Doug Williams and John Wooten.
The Hall’s Contributor category is designed to recognize people whose influence on professional football came through leadership, innovation and service to the game, rather than on-field performance. Kraft’s nomination reflects his long-term role with the Patriots franchise, including his purchase of the team in 1994 and the club’s sustained success during his tenure, the team said.
The Contributor Subcommittee is scheduled to meet virtually on Nov. 17 to discuss the finalists and select one candidate to advance for consideration by the full Hall of Fame Selection Committee. The Class of 2027 is expected to be determined before Super Bowl LXI, with the new class slated to be announced during NFL Honors in February, and enshrinement ceremonies scheduled for next August in Canton, Ohio.
