New Orleans announced the signings, bringing in a UFL standout with a rare big-range field-goal mark and expanding depth at quarterback and wide receiver.
New Orleans has moved to bolster its special teams and back-end offensive depth by signing kicker Tanner Brown, quarterback Hunter Dekkers, and wide receiver Jalen Moreno-Cropper. The Saints made the announcement Wednesday, setting the stage for an offseason competition focused on roles that can decide field position and game momentum.
Brown’s path to the NFL was shaped by his performance in the UFL, where he earned special teams player of the year honors. According to the report, his award came after he helped Louisville win a league title, an accomplishment that placed a spotlight on his reliability and range under pressure.
The most eye-catching detail is Brown’s leg strength. The report notes that he became the first pro kicker in any league to record two field goals of at least 60 yards in the same game, a milestone that underscores why New Orleans would view him as more than a typical placement option. For teams, the ability to convert from deep also changes how opponents manage kick coverage and how conservative they can afford to be around long-range attempts.
While the Brown signing is the centerpiece of the announcement, the Saints also added Dekkers and Moreno-Cropper as additional roster options. The team’s announcement frames them as new additions, but the available account does not provide specific college stats, professional experience, or role projections for either player beyond their new Saints affiliations.
From a football operations perspective, these moves reflect the common NFL offseason priorities of securing specialists and creating internal competition. Kickers and special teams players often have limited time to prove value during organized team activities and preseason, and a player with documented deep-range production can give a coaching staff another tactical tool in both scoring and late-game scenarios.
For fans, the immediate watch item is how New Orleans organizes its offseason reps. Brown’s range profile suggests he will be evaluated on more than raw power, including consistency, hold placement coordination, and accuracy across varying conditions. For Dekkers and Moreno-Cropper, the question will be whether they carve out chances for meaningful snaps as the Saints sort out depth behind the starters.
This transaction report is still fresh, and full confirmation of how the Saints will deploy each player will depend on official team materials and subsequent practice reports as training camp approaches. Until more details are published, New Orleans’ clearest takeaway is that it wants competition and upside across three positions that can swing special teams outcomes.
