THE APEX TIMES
With a sixth-inning solo shot at Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City catcher Salvador Perez hit his 137th homer at The K, moving past George Brett’s previous mark for the most in the ballpark’s 54-year history.
Kansas City turned Kauffman Stadium’s history into a personal milestone Thursday night. Salvador Perez took a solo turn in the sixth inning, sending a home run far enough to become his 137th at The K and, in the process, breaking a tie with George Brett for the most home runs in the ballpark’s 54-year history.
Perez’s homer did more than add to a season total. It changed the franchise and stadium record picture at the same time, with the catcher moving into sole possession of a mark that had been held in common by Brett. Brett’s name has long been synonymous with Kansas City power and consistency, so the shift is notable even for fans who follow the game closely.
The fact that this happened at The K matters because the stadium’s lifetime leaderboard tells a specific kind of story. In a venue that has hosted generations of Royals teams, a home run total that stretches across eras becomes a measure of longevity, timing, and sustained ability to do damage in a particular place.
Perez has long been one of Kansas City’s defining hitters and, as this record underscores, one of its most reliable sources of momentum. A solo homer can seem simple in the box score, but in practice it is often about turning a single pitch into a shift in leverage, forcing the opposing pitcher to reset while the home crowd responds.
Thursday’s moment also fits the Royals’ broader identity as a team built around impactful at-bats. When a veteran catcher reaches a milestone like a stadium home run record, it can change how the dugout thinks about the next plate appearance, especially in middle innings when games often tighten.
What to watch next is whether Perez continues to extend the gap from Brett and how Kansas City uses those kinds of innings to set the tone offensively. Records at a specific ballpark do not always produce immediate follow-through, but they often correlate with a hitter finding the same strengths and repeating them, pitch after pitch.
