Scott County Courthouse in Georgetown to close July 10 for HVAC renovations, clerk’s office to remain open

The Scott County Courthouse in Georgetown is scheduled to close on July 10 as part of an ongoing heating, ventilation and air conditioning renovation project, according to the Scott County Judge-Executive’s office. The move is intended to support the courthouse’s facilities work as the county continues planning and construction efforts tied to expanded court capacity in Georgetown.

County officials said the Clerk’s Office will remain open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the closure period. That office will be able to assist community members with motor vehicle services, election services, and limited recording services, officials said.

For other issues that would typically be handled through the courthouse, the Judge-Executive’s office said residents can contact it directly for assistance by calling (502) 863-7850. The announcement did not specify a reopening date, focusing instead on the July 10 start of the courthouse closure for the HVAC work.

The courthouse closure comes amid broader court facilities developments in Scott County. Earlier reporting from LEX 18 said construction progress is continuing on a Scott County Justice Center on Broadway in Georgetown, a project designed to consolidate court services under one roof.

According to LEX 18, the new justice center is planned as a 69,000-square-foot facility that includes six courtrooms. The report said the current courthouse was built more than 30 years ago and that the area has grown substantially since then.

LEX 18 also reported that the county’s judicial operations currently span three buildings, and that the new center is intended to bring “all court services under one roof.” In that coverage, Judge Jeremy Mattox said the biggest improvement expected from the $55 million project is faster service, including more courtroom availability and more individualized court-room scheduling.

The reporting further said the justice center would incorporate increased security measures, including secure entry doors and designated staircases and walkways for inmates. LEX 18 estimated the project’s completion at the end of 2026 and said there would be 85 public parking spaces for use when court is not in session.

In the near term, residents needing courthouse-related services are being directed to use the Clerk’s Office’s July 10 hours and limited service scope, or contact the Judge-Executive’s office for help. The July closure is expected to affect in-person access to parts of the courthouse beyond the functions the county says will remain available through the Clerk’s Office.
