Seahawks turn to Tyrice Knight while Jaxon Smith-Njigba returns for Week 6 at Denver

Seattle will be without starting linebacker Drake Thomas for its Thursday trip to Denver, but receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is cleared after an ankle injury and is expected to play.

The Seahawks will enter Week 6 without starting linebacker Drake Thomas. Seattle’s team report confirmed Thomas will be ruled out for Thursday’s game at Denver due to the ankle injury he sustained in Sunday’s loss to the 49ers.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the Seahawks’ leading receiver and the reigning AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year, is set to play. After injuring his ankle last weekend, Smith-Njigba returned as a full practice participant and had no game status listed on the final injury report, meaning he is good to go.

Coach Mike Macdonald said Seattle plans to keep the defensive standard intact with Tyrice Knight stepping into Thomas’ role. Macdonald also noted the linebacker returned to Sunday’s game and finished it, but he said he does not yet know beyond this week what Thomas’ status will be.

Seattle also has other injury designations around the same Week 6 window, including linebacker Chazz Surratt missing a third straight game with a calf injury, and running back Zach Charbonnet remaining out while still on the physically unable to perform list.

Why It Matters

  • The Seahawks must adjust their defensive rotation at linebacker immediately, with Tyrice Knight absorbing starting responsibilities against Denver.
  • Adding Smith-Njigba back preserves Seattle’s down-to-down offensive weapon, reducing the risk of further disruption at receiver.
  • The injury landscape extends beyond the headline matchup, with additional absences that can affect third-down and special-teams personnel.
  • Thomas’ next-week availability remains unclear, making this game a key data point for Seattle’s defensive planning.
