Seattle’s Week 9 injury report, issued after a Monday-night game, lists six non-participants, with Sam Darnold ruled out by head coach Mike Macdonald. Drew Lock, limited by an elbow issue, is expected to take over at quarterback.
The Seahawks’ Week 9 injury situation solidified into a quarterback decision on Wednesday: head coach Mike Macdonald said Sam Darnold will not play Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals due to a quadricep and rib injury.
Seattle’s practice-week injury report is described by the team as an estimate after opening the week with a walkthrough following Monday night’s game. Even with that caveat, Darnold was the headline non-participant, and the team’s expected quarterback change is clear.
Drew Lock is the player expected to start in Darnold’s place. Lock was listed as limited while dealing with an elbow injury, and the team noted that the elbow issue also limited him the prior two weeks.
Several other Seahawks are categorized as non-participants while returning from recent injuries. Left tackle Charles Cross (ankle), defensive tackle Leonard Williams (stinger), and receiver Rashid Shaheed (knee) were among those who missed Monday’s game, alongside outside linebacker Connor O’Toole (foot) and nose tackle Brandon Pili (back).
Williams, Cross, and Shaheed were not ruled out, with Macdonald saying Wednesday that each has a chance to play and that none had been eliminated from consideration. Additional players were listed as limited, including guard Anthony Bradford (knee), running back Velus Jones Jr. (hamstring), guard Quenton Nelson (knee), and outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu (ankle).
On the Cardinals side of the matchup, Seattle’s report lists several injuries as well: guard Jon Gaines (ankle), running back Bam Knight (concussion), and tackle Jayden Williams (knee) were non-participants, while defensive tackle Walter Nolen (ankle) and guard Isaiah Adams (ankle) were limited.
