Seahawks’ Zach Charbonnet ruled out, Mike Macdonald outlines Week 7 injury status vs. Chiefs
Seattle will hold out running back Zach Charbonnet as he continues his return from a torn ACL, while several other key players are either ruled out or listed as questionable for Sunday night.
Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said running back Zach Charbonnet will not be available for Seattle’s Week 7 game against the Chiefs. Charbonnet, who is working back from the torn ACL he suffered in the divisional round of the playoffs, was able to practice fully this week but was ruled out on Friday’s injury report.
Macdonald characterized the decision as part of the team’s recovery plan. “We’re going along with the plan,” he said, adding that he did not expect any setback and that the process is progressing as hoped.
The Seahawks also listed linebackers Drake Thomas and Chazz Surratt as ruled out. Thomas’ ankle injury will keep him out for a second consecutive game, which sets up another opportunity for Tyrice Knight, who started in Thomas’ place last week and recorded seven tackles against Denver.
Seattle has five players listed as questionable: safety Nick Emmanwori (hip), outside linebackers Uchenna Nwosu (hip) and DeMarcus Lawrence (knee), backup quarterback Drew Lock (right elbow), and outside linebacker Connor O’T oole (hamstring). Macdonald noted that Lawrence and Nwosu’s injuries were new on Thursday’s report and that both were limited in practice Friday. He said Emmanwori’s hip was newly added to Friday’s injury report and described it as “new today.”
Why It Matters
- Seattle will enter Sunday night with a key offensive change, as Charbonnet’s absence affects the Seahawks’ backfield rotation.
- Thomas’ second straight game missed increases the importance of Knight’s role in the linebacking unit.
- The questionable designations for multiple starters and depth pieces create uncertainty around both Seattle’s defense and its quarterback depth for Week 7.
- Because Charbonnet is still in the middle of his return process, the Seahawks’ short-term planning is now focused on next-week availability rather than a near-term debut.
