The former Auburn standout, Bo Jackson’s nephew, is working toward a roster opportunity with Las Vegas as NFL offseason evaluations continue.
Las Vegas Raiders training camp preparations are beginning to take clearer shape in one specific battle: whether Shedrick Jackson can turn offseason reps into a place on the club’s 53-man roster. According to Yahoo Sports, the former Auburn receiver is pushing for a spot after drawing attention early in Raiders OTA and minicamp work, where the coaching staff is looking for depth at the skill positions and players who can contribute on offense and in transition packages.
Jackson’s path to the NFL began as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn in 2023. Yahoo Sports reports that he eventually signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he spent parts of two seasons moving between the practice squad and the active roster. That bounce between roles is common for young players finding the right fit, but it also means evaluation is continuous, and opportunities can appear quickly when injuries, scheme needs, or matchups shift.
The Raiders connection matters because it suggests Jackson is pursuing a second chance to establish himself on an active roster. The same Yahoo Sports report says Las Vegas signed him prior to the end of the 2024 season, and he made his NFL debut with the Raiders in 2025. In five games that season, Jackson recorded four receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown, along with two first downs. Those production markers, while limited in sample size, provide a measurable baseline for what the Raiders may want to see again in 2026.
The age element is also relevant. Yahoo Sports notes that Jackson will turn 27 in October, placing him in a window where teams often expect more consistency rather than just flashes. That does not eliminate the developmental work, but it does narrow the margin for error when coaches are deciding which fringe players justify roster spots.
There is also a role-versatility angle implicit in Jackson’s usage history. The stat line includes both yardage and a touchdown, and it includes first downs, which typically indicates involvement in standard downs rather than being used only in end-of-half or gadget situations. Still, what matters next is whether he can build a summer track record that translates to the fall roster build, particularly in the route-running, timing, and separation areas that determine whether a receiver earns targets beyond camp.
For Las Vegas, the larger offseason challenge is roster construction. Teams rarely keep only a single archetype, and young pass-catchers can become valuable in multiple ways, whether that is as a boundary option, a slot depth piece, a special teams contributor, or a reliable target when the offense installs simplified concepts. Jackson’s push for a 53-man roster role fits that profile, but it is still a competition, and offseason standouts do not always become regular-season keepers.
As the Raiders move deeper into offseason practices and into training camp, the question is straightforward: can Jackson separate himself enough from other receivers vying for the same snaps? The next few weeks should clarify his ceiling with the team, especially if he builds on what the Raiders already saw from him in 2025.
If Jackson’s offseason momentum continues, it could be a reminder that NFL roster spots can be earned through sustained detail work rather than one standout moment. If it does not, the evaluation will likely return to how the Raiders view his fit within their receiver rotation and whether his production can be duplicated on a larger stage.
