The Gamecocks add a three-star offensive tackle commitment shortly before an official visit weekend, keeping momentum in their 2026 recruiting cycle.
South Carolina picked up an early commitment on Wednesday when offensive tackle Clayton Lee, a Florida native, decided to join the Gamecocks instead of waiting through the rest of the recruiting calendar. The pledge came as South Carolina planned a large official visit weekend, giving the program a tangible recruiting win before the remaining home-and-away evaluation period.
Lee took an official visit to South Carolina during the past weekend, and the decision was reported shortly after that trip. According to the report, he told schools he was ready to move on from the process, choosing South Carolina without extending his timeline to compare later options.
The commitment adds to South Carolina’s offensive line recruiting, specifically at the tackle position. Offensive tackle is a long-term need for many college programs because it anchors pass protection and run blocking on the edges, and it often shapes how a team’s front can be stabilized as players graduate or leave for the NFL.
In addition to the Gamecocks, Lee was also reportedly considering Virginia Tech and UCF among his top schools. That detail matters because it places his recruitment in a competitive mix of programs that can offer different offensive styles, coaching philosophies, and in-state or regional recruiting pipelines.
South Carolina’s recruiting momentum in this window matters for how quickly they can line up scholarship and development plans. When a commitment lands before a major official-visit stretch, it can reduce uncertainty within the recruiting class and allow staff members to focus on remaining targets rather than chasing a single priority through multiple visits.
At the same time, recruiting in college football is fluid until the signing period begins. A commitment is a major step, but it is not the final word on roster makeup, and prospective recruits can still re-evaluate as summer camps, coaching adjustments, and ongoing campus visits unfold.
For fans, the next watch item is how South Carolina fills out the rest of the offensive line board after adding Lee. The Gamecocks also have an official-visit weekend coming up, which often determines whether visits turn into additional commitments or reposition the staff’s priorities for later in the cycle.
