Spotify expands RADAR Italia for 2026 with six new artists and a more flexible program model
Spotify’s RADAR program for emerging talent in Italy enters its sixth year with a new cohort of artists and a shift toward a continuous, individualized support approach aimed at building longer-term careers.
Spotify has named six emerging Italian acts joining RADAR Italia as the company starts its sixth year of the initiative in the country. The new class includes Sara Gioielli, faccianuvola, Angelica Bove, prima stanza a destra, Visino Bianco, and Emili Kasa, all of whom are under the age of 26. Spotify said the program is designed to help artists develop sustainable careers, not just temporary visibility.
The announcement also marks a change in how RADAR Italia operates. Spotify said the initiative is moving away from a more fixed cycle and toward a continuous and flexible model tailored to each artist’s path. The company framed the update around three principles: long-term value, personalized support, and deeper storytelling.
Spotify’s newsroom described the artistic direction of the new artists across a range of genres. Gioielli blends formal music training and folk roots with modern pop. Faccianuvola merges folk and electronic influences while exploring themes of memory and nature. Angelica Bove draws on classic Italian songwriting, combining what Spotify described as refined lyricism with a contemporary point of view.
Spotify also highlighted two projects on opposite ends of the production and lyrical approach. Prima stanza a destra is described as an anonymous project built on synth-heavy production and understated songwriting, creating moody and introspective material. Visino Bianco brings, according to Spotify, an unfiltered perspective on anxiety and vulnerability within Italy’s emerging rap and trap scene.
Emili Kasa rounds out the cohort by moving among vocals, rap, and hip-hop, positioning her in what Spotify called the alternative music landscape. Spotify did not provide release dates, record label details, or specific track titles for these artists in the announcement, focusing instead on how RADAR fits their longer-term development.
RADAR Italia launched in 2020, Spotify said, and has become a recurring platform for discovery across multiple genres, from singer-songwriters to rap and electronic. The company offered performance indicators from artists who have participated. Spotify said monthly listeners grew by more than 700% on average after joining, while followers increased by 540% within a year. It also said fans have added RADAR artists to more than 15 million playlists, and participating artists reach an average of 38 new countries in their first year.
Spotify attributed the results not only to promotion, but to ongoing collaboration with artists and their teams. Adelechiara Nicoletti, Head of Artist and Label Partnerships for Southern and Eastern Europe, said in the announcement that the program’s value is rooted in day-to-day teamwork. She emphasized that Spotify provides editorial and strategic resources intended to amplify music while also supporting an artist’s shared journey over time. The company described success as seeing artists turn their uniqueness into a solid career.
The shift toward a more continuous and flexible format fits a broader approach at major streaming services: treat discovery as an ongoing relationship rather than a one-time push. By tailoring support and storytelling to an artist’s path, Spotify appears to be trying to make its marketing and editorial efforts more aligned with how musicians actually build momentum, including timing around releases, touring, and audience development.
What Spotify did not disclose leaves some uncertainty around the practical mechanics of the new model. The company did not detail what continuous support means in operational terms, such as the frequency of editorial placements, the structure of meetings with teams, or whether the program changes how playlisting decisions are made. It also did not specify whether artists will cycle through RADAR at different intervals going forward, or how Spotify measures “long-term value” beyond the metrics it shared for earlier cohorts.
Looking ahead, investors and industry watchers will likely watch whether Spotify’s updated RADAR Italia model produces stronger retention of audience growth beyond the first year, especially as it moves toward longer-form support and “deeper storytelling.” Spotify’s next data points, and any additional guidance on how artists progress through the program over time, could indicate whether the company can turn early surge into durable career outcomes.
Why It Matters
- The update indicates Spotify’s intent to improve how it converts short-term discovery into longer-term artist growth through individualized support and storytelling.
- If the continuous model increases retention of audience gains, it could strengthen Spotify’s role as a creator platform in markets where local music ecosystems rely on sustained exposure.
- RADAR’s disclosed engagement metrics reinforce Spotify’s strategy of tying creator initiatives to measurable outcomes, which can influence how labels and artist teams evaluate streaming partnerships.
