Spotify returns to Cannes Lions with “Spotify Beach” experiences built around fan identity

Ahead of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Spotify says it will use curated talks, personalization stations, and live performances to demonstrate how it “earns fans’ attention” across music and culture.

Spotify is bringing an expanded pop-up experience to Cannes Lions 2026, turning the festival’s usual mix of advertising and creative networking into a multi-day set of events centered on fandom. The company’s “Spotify Beach” opens on Monday, June 22 and runs through Friday, June 26 on the Croisette in France, positioning the venue as both a stage for cultural conversations and a hands-on environment meant to let attendees experience what Spotify describes as “fandom first-hand.”

Bridget Evans, Spotify’s Global Head of Business Marketing, framed Cannes Lions as a concentrated moment for the advertising industry to gather and celebrate creativity. In Spotify’s announcement, she said the company uses the festival to show Spotify’s role in culture by hosting conversations with creators that matter to brands, curating evening events for people to experience fandom, and demonstrating what it means, in practice, to earn fans’ attention.

Spotify’s program is designed to blend daytime programming with nighttime performances. During the day, Spotify Beach will host sessions featuring influential voices spanning music, entertainment, fashion, and culture. When the sun goes down, Spotify says the space will shift into a nighttime stage with performances by major artists.

Alongside the agenda of talks and shows, Spotify is leaning on personalization to drive engagement inside the venue. The company says guests can stop at a Coffee Bar to craft a customized matcha using different flavors, foams, and toppings. At the Shape Your Taste Froyo Bar, attendees can customize their Spotify profile while building a personalized frozen yogurt treat. Spotify also plans “Prompt Your Playlist” postcards, a format aimed at letting guests share personalized prompts or recommendations with friends back home.

Spotify is also describing portions of the space as immersive meeting-room takeovers that highlight cultural moments Spotify says it has helped shape. The company points to examples including its “You’re Among Fans” campaign featuring Lizzo and Jay Shetty, along with Spotify’s 20th anniversary look and a separate initiative called “Reserved.” The emphasis, according to Spotify, is on creating environments where cultural indicates and brand messaging feel participatory rather than purely promotional.

The company’s lineup includes discussions that directly target how modern audiences form loyalty. One session features Coach CMO Joon Silverstein and Spotify Global Head of Business Marketing Bridget Evans, along with artist Troye Sivan, speaking with Willa Bennett, Editor-in-Chief of Cosmopolitan and Seventeen. Spotify says the conversation will focus on what it takes to earn trust from Gen Z, examining how self-expression, shared identity, and genuine connection can translate into loyalty that lasts.

Another session centers on meaning-making and dialogue. Spotify says On Purpose host Jay Shetty will unpack how meaningful conversation shapes culture, creativity, identity, and purpose, with a special guest joining him for an in-depth discussion described as curious and candid. Separately, Spotify co-CEO Alex Norström will sit down with to discuss how music connects fans on the platform and in real life, and how brands can translate fan energy into tangible experiences.

For the festival’s entertainment component, Spotify lists multiple nighttime performance acts. The company says performances will include Mike D of the Beastie Boys, Central Cee, and RAYE, and later sessions will feature Lykke Li, Mumford & Sons (with a special guest), and a DJ set by John Summit. Spotify also describes a marketing-focused round-robin session in which Ejae and John Summit join chief marketers from GAP and LinkedIn to explore how brands can harness culture and build loyal communities.

Why It Matters

  • Spotify is using a major advertising-industry forum to position its brand as more than a distribution platform, focusing on fan identity and engagement.
  • The emphasis on personalization activities suggests Spotify is treating experiential marketing as a way to operationalize product behavior and data-driven tailoring in public settings.
  • By combining executives, marketers, and creators in structured conversations, Spotify is likely targeting agencies and brand partners looking for measurable engagement approaches.
  • Spotify’s focus on Gen Z trust indicates a continued strategy to connect creator-led cultural narratives with audience loyalty, a theme that appears central to its Cannes messaging.
