Fans interested in joining the group can audition on September 19, with team officials and existing Jackals working to add more members for next year.

The core idea, as described by Yahoo, traces to last season’s approach involving Victor Wembanyama. The reigning star helped introduce an American-basketball atmosphere designed with European-style football fandom in mind, and the Jackals concept was built as a repeatable, organized section of high-energy fans rather than an ad hoc crowd response.

Yahoo also frames the early results as more than symbolic. It says Wembanyama held auditions, selected a number of “rabid fans” who committed to attending the majority of home games, and then “set them loose” to raise the game-day intensity. In that telling, the Jackals’ impact did not stop at Frost Bank Center, with members taking special trips to out-of-town games as well.

The push for 2026-27 is tied to the same atmosphere-building goals, but it is now positioned as a membership pipeline.
