The former Indiana Fever guard, speaking in a season-opening conversation with Yahoo Sports, named Caitlin Clark as her projected MVP for the 2026 campaign, citing familiarity from Colson’s time in Indianapolis. The pick adds another layer to the ongoing narrative around Clark’s transition from college stardom to continued high-level production in the WNBA.
Sydney Colson, a former Indiana Fever player, said she believes Caitlin Clark will be the 2026 WNBA Most Valuable Player. In a discussion published Tuesday, Colson explained that her selection is informed by having spent time with Clark during Clark’s Indiana Fever stint that began in 2025. Colson’s endorsement matters because it comes from a peer standpoint, not from analysts breaking down box scores from the outside.
Colson’s relationship with the Fever’s current identity also gives her perspective on what it takes to turn star scoring into repeatable value over a full season. As the Yahoo Sports piece notes, Colson and Clark were on the Fever at the same time when Clark signed for Indiana in 2025. That shared context is the basis for Colson’s confidence in Clark as an MVP-type difference-maker.
What an MVP pick means in the WNBA is more than one headline. Voters typically reward a combination of statistical impact, team influence, and the ability to elevate winning situations across the season. Clark, who entered the league with attention that quickly translated into on-court touches and high-usage responsibility, continues to be evaluated through the lens of whether that responsibility sustains both elite production and team results in different matchups and defensive schemes.
Colson’s comment also slots into a broader summer-to-fall storyline: the league is still learning how quickly new star momentum becomes long-term conditioning, decision-making, and efficiency. Even for players who arrive with reputations built in college, the WNBA’s pace, spacing, and physicality require adjustments over time. By picking Clark for 2026, Colson is effectively forecasting that those adjustments will not only stick, but sharpen into a season-defining profile.
There is also an Indiana Fever angle. The Fever’s roster-building and game plan depend on how consistently the team can generate high-quality offense while maintaining structure at both ends. An MVP caliber season from Clark would likely mean Indiana can run its core sets more often with less settling for low-percentage possessions, and it would raise the standard for teammates to benefit from her gravity. In that sense, Colson’s pick doubles as a vote of confidence in the Fever’s ability to feature Clark as the organizing engine rather than a high-volume scorer.
The strongest caveat here is that the Yahoo Sports report presents Colson’s personal opinion rather than a league-wide prediction with supporting metrics. The piece does not, in the materials available here, provide a detailed list of Clark’s projected production or specific team outcomes that underpin the selection. Still, Colson’s viewpoint is useful because it reflects how a player who has competed alongside Clark interprets her potential for sustained MVP impact.
Looking ahead to the 2026 season, the question for Clark will be whether her influence remains consistent across stretches where defenses load up on her or force the Fever into different offensive flows. For Indianapolis, the next step is turning that star gravity into durable playoff-level performance. Colson’s MVP pick sets the expectation bar early, and it also indicates that teammates around the league still view Clark as capable of carrying the “most valuable” label when the full season is tallied.
