Syracuse football adds two commitments for 2027 class, loses one to Alabama flip

Syracuse’s recruiting push for the 2027 class moved in two directions at once on the weekend of June 6-7. The Orange gained commitments from Florida offensive lineman Nico Ramos and Liverpool (N.Y.) High EDGE Braylon Otis, then saw another prior pledge come off the board when tight end Michael Nnabuife flipped his commitment to Alabama on Saturday evening. The result was a net gain of one player for a class that is still taking shape under head coach Fran Brown.

Ramos’ commitment gives Syracuse a build-up piece on the interior of the offensive line. The Plantation, Florida product is listed at 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, and On3 reported he chose the Orange over Rutgers and said the program’s “culture” was a major factor. According to On3, Ramos becomes the 15th commitment for Syracuse’s 2027 class. Recruiting coverage also placed him in the three-star tier on major recruiting boards.

Otis’ flip added a second weekend commitment, and it came with a backstory. The EDGE prospect, who had originally committed to Boston College on Feb. 9, announced a change to Syracuse after an official visit. Sports Illustrated’s Syracuse recruiting coverage reported that Otis posted the news to social media and credited the visit with sealing the decision. 247Sports rated him as a three-star recruit and the No. 5 prospect in New York, and the report noted he has been used as both an EDGE and tight end at the high school level.

Syracuse’s third key development was the most disruptive: Nnabuife’s departure. Sports Illustrated reported that the 2027 Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy tight end switched his commitment from Syracuse to Alabama on Saturday evening, with the flip tied to an official visit to Alabama. The same report said Nnabuife initially committed to Syracuse on May 20 and is rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports. With his change, the Orange’s 2027 class fell back to 14 commitments, according to Sports Illustrated.

From a football-operations perspective, the tight end loss and two additions do not cancel each other out in terms of roster planning. Ramos’ pledge gives Syracuse an extra offensive line option for its next recruiting cycle, while Otis’ versatility as an EDGE/tight end profile can matter in sub packages and practice-line development as Fran Brown’s staff evaluates how prospects fit in different looks. Nnabuife’s flip, meanwhile, is a reminder that even late-spring commitments are not secure until the cycle closes.

Recruiting rankings can shift quickly when decommitments hit the calendar, and Syracuse’s class has been moving during this stretch of weekend visits. One recruiting update tied to the story reported Syracuse’s 2027 class was ranked 31st by 247Sports and 35th by Rivals after the weekend moves, though those rankings can change again as more pledges land or flip. For now, the recruiting picture is simple: Syracuse added two players it targeted, then lost a tight end it wanted to keep, so the staff’s summer work will likely center on rebalancing the tight end board while continuing to stack linemen and pass-rush depth.
