A teen defendant entered a not guilty plea in connection with an August 15 shooting at the East End Day event in Louisville that left Di'Zhon Robertson, 16, dead and four others injured.
A teen charged in the August 15 shooting at Charles Young Park in Louisville entered a not guilty plea Monday, according to LEX18. The plea was entered in a juvenile court proceeding tied to the case stemming from the East End Day event, where a shooting left multiple people injured and one teenager dead.
LEX18 reported that Di'Zhon Robertson, 16, was killed in the attack, and that four other people were injured. The incident occurred during the East End Day gathering at the park, a venue that serves as a community space in the East End area of Louisville.
The not guilty plea means prosecutors will be required to pursue the case further to prove the defendant’s alleged role in the shooting. The LEX18 report characterized the court appearance as part of the case’s early stage process, with the defense maintaining that the allegations should not stand.
The August shooting prompted community concern because it occurred during a public event intended for residents and families. In the aftermath, police and prosecutors faced the challenge of assembling evidence adequate to charge and move the case through the court system, including decisions about charging levels and whether the case would be handled through juvenile court procedures.
As the matter continues, additional hearings will be needed to determine next steps in the prosecution, including whether the case can be resolved without trial or must proceed to an adjudication. The outcome will also affect what protections and services the court applies while the charges remain pending.
