This Is the 2026 Texans: DeMeco Ryans Points to the Team’s Response to Adversity After a London Win
Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans and quarterback C.J. Stroud say the identity of the 2026 Texans is being forged in difficult moments, not in the easy ones.
Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans framed the 2026 Texans as a team defined by how it responds when things do not go as planned, pointing to what he called the “response to adversity” after the Texans earned a win in London.
Ryans said the early-season stretch they did not want is part of what makes this group. He argued that adversity is inevitable, and that a single difficult moment does not determine a season, only the reaction that follows.
The message, according to Ryans, has been to keep the focus small and the process consistent: “one focus, one game at a time.” He presented “complete team football” as the non-negotiable, emphasizing that progress must show up across all three phases working together.
Quarterback C.J. Stroud agreed with the premise that the approach has not changed, saying that when games are decided by one or two plays, there is no need to overhaul the process. He also said the results are beginning to catch up as the season continues.
Ryans also highlighted the atmosphere in London, describing the Texans’ travel fan turnout as loud and passionate. He pointed to the support Houston fans brought to the trip and singled out the optimism he saw from the crowd, including MVP chants directed at Stroud.
Why It Matters
- Ryans’ comments stress a team-building standard that can become a measuring stick as the Texans move through the season’s remaining games.
- Stroud’s emphasis on process consistency suggests Houston believes improvement will come from tightening execution rather than changing fundamentals.
- The spotlight on “complete team football” indicates how the coaching staff wants success to be reflected across all phases, not only offense.
- The reported fan presence in London reinforces the importance of maintaining energy and confidence in high-profile settings as the season develops.
