Tennessee rookie wide receiver Carnell Tate is answering the central question of his early-season trajectory with a clearer role and production that is rising week to week. In the Titans’ 26-20 win over the Colts, Tate scored his first career touchdown and finished with six catches for 70 yards.

The team’s coaching staff emphasized that the impact goes beyond one scoring play. Coach Robert Saleh, speaking Monday, highlighted Tate’s aggressiveness after the catch, including YAC that helped move the game forward after receptions.

That development is showing up in Tate’s season output through five games. Tate leads the Titans with 29 catches for 344 yards and a touchdown, and the team is describing his confidence as steadily improving as he gets more practice and game reps.

Tate said Monday that he feels he is getting better each week, linking the change to increased comfort and more opportunities to learn in live situations. Saleh echoed that perspective, describing Tate’s game slowing down as he adjusts to what the NFL asks of him.

Looking at the larger picture, the Titans reported Tate is on pace for an 82-catch, 975-yard season as his transition continues. The immediate theme remains the same: Tate’s role is expanding, and the team believes his understanding of routes and execution is catching up to his talent.

Why It Matters

For Tennessee’s offense, Tate’s early production and growing comfort make him a reliable option in the passing game as the season progresses.
The touchdown against Indianapolis provided a meaningful marker for Tate’s rookie development and reinforced the trust being built by the staff.
Saleh’s comments suggest the Titans see Tate’s skill set translating to NFL pace and decision-making, which can influence how Tennessee designs routes and targets.
With Tate leading the team in receiving through five games, his continued role could shape the Titans’ weekly offensive priorities.
