THE APEX TIMES
With Tennessee’s third preseason game approaching, the Titans will use the Bears contest as another evaluation stage, with a staff-led focus on several specific areas for improvement.
The Tennessee Titans close out their preseason on Saturday night when they host the Chicago Bears at Nissan Stadium, the team’s third preseason game of the summer. Senior writer and editor Jim Wyatt previewed the matchup with a “six things to watch” look, framing the night as another important checkpoint for how Tennessee’s roster pieces fit together heading into the regular season.
Preseason game No. 3 typically carries a sharper emphasis on execution than experimentation, and the Titans are treating the Bears matchup as their latest chance to sort out timing and roles. For teams at this stage, the work is less about installing new systems and more about measuring consistency: how quickly units respond after substitutions, whether starters can sustain rhythm into later drives, and which combinations can hold up against live-game pressure.
Wyatt’s preview ties those evaluation themes to six specific watch points, though the article’s promotional material does not list the items in this view. What the team did make clear is the context and the stakes: Tennessee is preparing for the final preseason dress-rehearsal and looking to confirm that both foundational play and situational football are trending in the right direction.
The Titans also face a Bears opponent that brings its own preseason evaluation process, meaning matchups in the trenches and in the secondary often become a main storyline for coaching staffs. In these late preseason games, personnel decisions can hinge on small details, such as whether coverage rotations hold after the first wave of substitutions, or how the pass rush adjusts when the offensive line personnel changes.
For Tennessee’s coaching staff, the Saturday night game is positioned as a clean step toward the regular-season roster picture. By the third preseason week, teams generally want more clarity on roles in the receiving corps, depth at key positions, and the units that can be trusted in high-leverage moments, even if the preseason still does not replicate every regular-season game script.
Fans watching at Nissan Stadium will likely focus on how the Titans manage the pace of the offense and the discipline of the defense across multiple drives. The preseason finale is often when coaches and players try to demonstrate that the basics are stable, from third-down conversions to red-zone execution, while also keeping an eye on stamina and readiness as the calendar turns.
What to watch next is straightforward: how well Tennessee performs in the specific areas Wyatt flagged in his preview, and whether the Titans can translate weeks of practice into cleaner execution against a Chicago team also looking to lock in its own evaluation priorities.
