Toyota Racing to Debut Liquid-Hydrogen Prototype With First Public Le Mans Demonstration Runs

Toyota Racing says it will conduct the first public demonstration drives of its TR LH2 Racing Prototype next week at France’s Circuit de la Sarthe ahead of the 94th running of the Le Mans 24 Hours. The company is positioning the car as a track-focused technology test designed to showcase and accelerate the development of hydrogen combustion in motorsport.
According to Toyota, the TR LH2 Racing Prototype will complete demonstration laps on Thursday, June 11 at 12:50 p.m. CEST and again on Saturday, June 13 at 12:45 p.m. CEST. Toyota described the sessions as a way to bring the “sound and sensation” of a hydrogen combustion engine to fans around the circuit during the Le Mans build-up period.
Toyota said the prototype is based on the same chassis as the TR010 HYBRID Hypercar, the race-winning platform that Toyota will field for Le Mans on June 13-14. While the event will be public, Toyota’s materials emphasize that the TR LH2 Racing Prototype is intended primarily as a development step rather than as a competition entry.
Before the on-track demonstrations, the car will be displayed to visitors at Le Mans in the Hydrogen Village, an exhibition centered on hydrogen technology. Toyota said the Hydrogen Village is officially scheduled to open on Wednesday, June 10, putting the hydrogen theme on display in the days leading into race week.
Toyota also detailed the project’s development path through other hydrogen racing initiatives. It cited Rookie Racing’s participation in Japan’s Super Taikyu series with the ORC ROOKIE GR Corolla H2 Concept, which used gaseous hydrogen, and Toyota’s later shift toward liquid hydrogen-powered concepts. It also referenced hydrogen demonstrations in rallying, including a GR Yaris H2 run on Ypres Rally in 2022 and additional GR Yaris Rally2 H2 Concept demonstrations later in 2025 and early 2026.
The company said the TR LH2 Racing Prototype is the latest milestone after earlier Le Mans hydrogen showcases, including a 2023 demonstration lap by the ORC ROOKIE GR Corolla H2 Concept and the presentation of a GR H2 Racing Concept aimed at previewing a potential future hydrogen category at the 24-hour event. Toyota then described an additional step taken last year with the unveiling of the liquid hydrogen-powered GR LH2 Racing Concept at Le Mans.
For the event itself, Toyota’s schedule aligns with broader Hydrogen Village and on-track hydrogen programming at Le Mans. Toyota and event partners say the demonstrations are part of hydrogen sessions in the “White House” area of the circuit and include refueling and public-facing exposure to hydrogen-powered prototypes. Le Mans event coverage also described hydrogen demonstration sessions running in the same general time windows and noted the presence of additional hydrogen prototypes during those slots.
What Toyota has not disclosed in the announcement so far are technical specifications beyond the connection to the TR010 Hybrid Hypercar chassis base, such as power output, fuel system design details, expected lap counts, or performance targets for the demonstration run.
