The Orioles announced Trey Mancini will sign a one-day contract with Baltimore and officially retire as an Oriole ahead of a Sept. 19 home game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Baltimore will mark the end of Trey Mancini’s professional playing career with an Oriole-themed farewell. The Orioles announced that Mancini will sign a one-day contract with the club and retire as an Oriole on Saturday, Sept. 19, when Baltimore hosts the Milwaukee Brewers at Oriole Park at Camden Yards with first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET.
The club’s plan places Mancini’s ceremonial retirement around a full-game day at Camden Yards. The Orioles said fans are invited to enjoy the moment as part of a slate of pregame celebrations that will recognize his time in Baltimore.
One-day retirement contracts are a familiar baseball tradition, used to formalize a player’s status with a club that is closely tied to his career. In Mancini’s case, the Orioles’ announcement makes clear that Baltimore intends for this final official step to reflect his identity as an Oriole, rather than as a player closing out his career under another jersey.
The matchup is also notable for the scheduling context. Sept. 19 is a late-season date, and Baltimore’s home series against Milwaukee places the ceremony in front of a regular-season crowd during a period when fan interest typically centers on both game-time outcomes and notable clubhouse moments.
For Mancini, the honoring extends beyond a simple roster note. The Orioles described the occasion as “momentous,” and linked it to pregame festivities, indicating that the retirement announcement is intended to be experienced as an event at the ballpark rather than a background transaction.
While the Orioles did not use the announcement to detail every aspect of what fans will see, the central elements were explicit: the one-day contract, the official retirement date, and the opponent and start time for the game against the Brewers.
Going forward, the most immediate thing to watch is how the ceremony is integrated into the Sept. 19 pregame program. For Orioles fans, it will function as both a closure for Mancini’s career chapter and a reminder of how the franchise chooses to honor players who became part of its identity.
