Minnesota tendered a $23.15 million qualifying offer to free-agent catcher Ryan Jeffers. If he declines and signs elsewhere, the Twins are set to receive a compensatory pick in the 2027 MLB Draft.
The Twins have extended a qualifying offer to free-agent catcher Ryan Jeffers, a roster-and-budget move that also creates a 2027 MLB Draft compensation path. Under the qualifying offer rules, if Jeffers signs with another club instead of accepting the tender, Minnesota will be awarded a compensatory selection in next year’s draft.
The tender amount is $23.15 million. Jeffers has until Nov. 17 to decide whether to accept the offer, and accepting would keep him under the guaranteed 2027 salary figure before allowing him to consider the rest of the free-agency process.
Jeffers is entering free agency for the first time. After the Twins’ final game of the season, he indicated he remains open to returning to Minnesota, but said he intends to explore the market to understand his options and value.
From the Twins’ perspective, the decision arrives as the front office looks toward multiple roster needs beyond catcher. The team has indicated an interest in increasing payroll for 2027, while also evaluating bullpen help, a possible power bat, and how to build a catcher plan around the near-term and later phases of the roster.
Minnesota’s internal timing is also shaped by prospect development. The Twins’ No. 2 prospect, catcher Vahn Lackey, is expected to move through the minors quickly, though the organization’s expectation is that he is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day 2027 and probably not until 2028, affecting how long-term the Jeffers decision may need to be.
