Baltimore’s quarterback plan for the remainder of the season will now rest without Tyler Huntley after tests confirmed a turf toe injury. The Ravens have also moved to name Joe Fagnano as their next starter.
The Ravens have been dealt a major blow to their quarterback depth, with Tyler Huntley’s toe injury reported as season-ending after tests revealed a turf toe problem.
Baltimore’s team website reported the situation as confirmed by results cited in the coverage of ESPN’s Adam Schefter, placing Huntley’s availability for the rest of the year in jeopardy.
The injury context matters because the Ravens are already managing the fallout from an earlier quarterback setback. Baltimore’s team report said Lamar Jackson suffered a right thumb injury on the team’s first offensive play from scrimmage in the loss to the Bills, is headed for injured reserve, and will miss at least the next four games.
With Jackson out and Huntley sidelined, Baltimore announced that undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano will start Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The same report said Fagnano was dealing with an ankle injury from the Buffalo game but was a full participant in Tuesday’s practice.
The Ravens also acted on roster depth, signing Kedon Slovis to the 53-man roster off the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad and bringing Austin Reed back to the practice squad, options designed to keep quarterback coverage intact during a difficult stretch.
Huntley had been the primary backup for much of his Ravens tenure, and the team report said this season he made three starts while Jackson was sidelined with an ankle injury. Overall, it listed Huntley’s season production in five games as 76 of 110 passing (69.1%) for 727 yards, with four touchdowns and one interception, plus 76 rushing yards and another touchdown.
