New England gets its top cornerback back in the secondary, but the offense enters rainy Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium without several key starters, including two high-impact playmakers.
The Patriots’ list for Sunday’s Week 8 AFC East matchup in Miami answers a clear question for New England: who is available after a wave of game-day injuries. Cornerback Carlton Davis III is officially active despite missing the previous three games with a neck injury, but New England will play without several offensive starters, including wide receiver A.J. Brown and running back TreVeyon Henderson.
Davis III’s return is the headline defensive update for the Patriots. The team noted he has missed multiple games due to a nagging neck issue, and that New England’s top cornerback trio has been on the field together only limitedly this season while Davis and Christian Gonzalez have been dealing with injuries.
On offense, the Patriots expect to be shorthanded in multiple positions. After ruling out Brown (ankle/knee) and Henderson (illness) ahead of the game, New England’s inactive list also includes Mack Hollins, Romeo Doubs, and fullback Reggie Gilliam, along with starters on the offensive line, including starting left guard Alijah Vera-Tucker and starting right guard Mike Onwenu.
New England’s receiver situation leaves just three healthy targets from its 53-man roster: DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism III. The Patriots also elevated Ryan Miller from the practice squad for Week 8, and their projected usage suggests Douglas remains the usual speed-slot option while Williams and Chism handle more of the passing-game volume than they have recently.
The backfield rotation also tightens with Henderson out. The Patriots have Rhamondre Stevenson, plus Corey Kiner and Lan Larison as depth, with Stevenson expected to carry a substantial snap share given his recent workload trends. The Patriots also pointed to the tight end group as a potential outlet if the wideout room stays limited, noting their offense has used two-tight-end sets relatively sparingly.
Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium, with the Patriots emphasizing that rain and injuries increase the premium on a steady defensive performance as Miami’s offense looks to build off recent momentum.
