Which FBS teams remain undefeated in Week 8 of the 2026 college football season?

The NCAA’s weekly tracking update shows five unbeaten teams left entering the later stages of October, led by Miami at the top of the AP Top 25.

With the calendar turning to Week 8, the field of undefeated FBS teams has narrowed to five teams, according to the NCAA’s update of results through Week 7.

No. 1 Miami (Fla.) is one of the remaining unbeaten programs at 6-0, and the Hurricanes kept their streak intact with a double-overtime win over unranked Florida State. The NCAA update says that result moved Miami to No. 1 in the AP poll for the first time since 2002.

No. 2 BYU (6-0) is also unbeaten, coming after a “battle of undefeated teams” win against then-No. 2 Notre Dame in what the NCAA described as a last-minute thriller. The NCAA update also notes that the Cougars have completed their final nonconference game and will face Big 12 opponents for the remainder of the season.

Texas Tech (No. 8, 6-0) remains perfect, with the NCAA pointing to its September win over then-No. 22 Houston as its ranked victory. The update adds that the Houston game was the closest contest Texas Tech has played so far, with every other win coming by multiple scores.

Utah (No. 10, 6-0) is the fourth unbeaten team highlighted by the NCAA, and the update contrasts the team’s season-long trend of comfortable margins with its most recent outing, a three-point win over Colorado. The NCAA also flags potential late-season matchups involving Houston and BYU.

Rounding out the remaining undefeated teams is UCLA (No. 9, 6-0). The NCAA described the Bruins’ key win as their first visit to Oregon resulting in a victory since 2004, and it says UCLA has only one ranked opponent remaining on its schedule, a season finale against Southern California.

Why It Matters

  • With only five unbeaten programs left, the path to another perfect regular season has narrowed quickly after Week 7.
  • The NCAA update ties the current title picture to recent history, pointing to Indiana’s 16-0 championship run last season.
  • Because all five teams are in the AP Top 10 or No. 1 to No. 2 range, late-season games among top-ranked opponents could have outsized impact on playoff positioning.
  • The remaining schedules include prominent conference and rivalry tests, including notes from the NCAA about late-season matchups involving BYU, Houston, and the UCLA-USC finale.
  • Multiple “closest call” and “statement win” descriptions in the NCAA tracking suggest that even undefeated teams are not insulated from season-defining swings.
