The Winnipeg Jets will make seven selections at the 2026 NHL Draft, starting at eighth overall as the league finalizes the order for the first round through the Jets’ remaining picks.
The Winnipeg Jets’ place in the 2026 NHL Draft has been finalized, setting the board for a seven-pick opportunity that begins with the team’s first selection at eighth overall. According to Yahoo Sports’ report on the finalized draft order, Winnipeg will be on the clock early, which typically allows a club to target top-tier prospects before teams higher in the order narrow the talent pool.
An eighth-overall slot matters in practical terms because it shapes how a team approaches its board. At the draft’s top end, differences between prospects are often measured in a handful of traits, such as projection on ice, skating and play-driving ability, and how quickly a player is expected to adapt to higher-end competition. When a team holds an early pick plus additional selections later in the draft, it can balance an immediate-impact selection with one or more swings at need and upside.
For Winnipeg, having seven selections adds flexibility to the build. In the NHL draft, the ability to spread selections across multiple tiers of prospect development is a common team strategy, particularly when the goal is to add both near-term contributors and longer-term organizational depth. Seven picks do not guarantee a particular outcome, but they do give management more chances to land players who fit the system and the timelines the organization is aiming for.
The official order is also a key storyline for other teams because the draft is a rolling set of negotiations, scouting targets, and roster construction decisions happening simultaneously. Even when the Jets’ pick position is the headline, Winnipeg’s selection slot has ripple effects, determining who is available to the clubs immediately above and below it as the first round progresses.
What to watch next is how Winnipeg uses the remaining picks after the eighth-overall selection. In most drafts, the strongest positional and skill needs do not always line up perfectly with how prospects fall, so clubs frequently adjust in real time based on who is left on the board. With seven total picks, the Jets will have multiple opportunities to respond to that dynamic rather than relying on a single choice.
This report is built on the Jets’ draft order being finalized, not on a list of specific prospects or a confirmed internal ranking. Without a deeper order breakdown beyond the eighth-overall starting point and the total pick count, it is not possible to detail the exact round-by-round distribution of Winnipeg’s selections or to assess which players are most likely to be available at each moment.
Still, the early slot plus multiple selections sets up a draft day plan that is likely to be evaluated not only by immediate excitement, but by how the incoming class integrates into the development pipeline over time. For Jets fans, the next update worth tracking will be the publicly available draft order details once teams and the league release them in full, along with any prospect-to-team scouting reports as the draft approaches.
