WWDC opens with Siri at the center of Apple’s AI test
As Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference begins June 8, expectations for iOS 27 and the next generation of Siri have become less about showmanship and more about credibility, developers, and what Apple Intelligence can actually deliver in daily use.
Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, scheduled for June 8 to June 12, opens Monday with a keynote that Apple says will include “AI advancements” alongside new software and developer tools. Apple’s official plan calls for the keynote at 10 a.m. PDT and a “Platforms State of the Union” the same day at 1 p.m. PDT, with additional sessions and Group Labs running through the week. The same statement says these models are intended to help power future Apple Intelligence features, including “a more personalized Siri coming this year,” while Apple Intelligence would “continue to run on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute” with Apple’s privacy standards maintained.
The market risk, TheStreet argues, is that Apple could end up repeating what other AI assistants already do, without translating AI capability into a reason for customers to stay in the Apple ecosystem, upgrade devices, and engage more deeply with Apple services. In that framing, a slick demo would not be enough if Siri’s new skills do not feel practical and dependable for real-world use, or if the upgrade turns out to be limited in availability, performance, or scope.
